Inspiration for Life

I know this post is a little off topic but I have reached a point in my life where I feel like I need to find my purpose; my reason to exist in this world. It is a funny corner to turn, when you’ve been living most of your life without any thought of what the decisions you make in your life might do for your future. I recently read an article featuring an open letter that Hunter S. Thompson wrote to answer what he thought the meaning of life was, and I found it very poignant at this stage in my life.

As I see it then, the formula runs something like this: a man must choose a path which will let his ABILITIES function at maximum efficiency toward the gratification of his DESIRES. In doing this, he is fulfilling a need (giving himself identity by functioning in a set pattern toward a set goal), he avoids frustrating his potential (choosing a path which puts no limit on his self-development), and he avoids the terror of seeing his goal wilt or lose its charm as he draws closer to it (rather than bending himself to meet the demands of that which he seeks, he has bent his goal to conform to his own abilities and desires).

In short, he has not dedicated his life to reaching a pre-defined goal, but he has rather chosen a way of life he KNOWS he will enjoy. The goal is absolutely secondary: it is the functioning toward the goal which is important. And it seems almost ridiculous to say that a man MUST function in a pattern of his own choosing; for to let another man define your own goals is to give up one of the most meaningful aspects of life — the definitive act of will which makes a man an individual.

You can read the full letter HERE

I hope you find something inspiring from it too.

Inspired By …Linocut Prints

A while back I went to a gallery in the outer sunset and the artists who ran the studio did a lot of really amazing Lino Prints. While I was studying at art school I saw lots of different printing processes and have always been fascinated with them.  Lino Printing is a process using a linoleum(hence “lino”) plate and you carve out an image or design; then roll ink over it and press the carved image onto another surface. After seeing all of the amazing images at 3 fish studios I was inspired to go buy a linoleum block and some carving tools from our local art store and starting searching around the internet for more inspiration.

Anyway, I hope I’ll be able to show something cool after I have chiseled away at my lino block.

My Happiness Right Now

My life has been completely consumed by a new member of our little family. Our 8 month old puppy; Duke. photophoto 2 photo 3 photo 4photo 1 photo 2 photo 3 photo 4We got Duke on Sunday and one day later my boyfriend left for a job in NYC for 4 days, I was puppy sitting and training this little guy for his first week in our home. Duke is by far the mellowest puppy I have ever encountered. He has been a dream these last couple of weeks and really makes me feel like we have completed our little family. We rescued him from Family Dog Rescue in San Francisco, I would recommend if you are looking for a dog, that you should rescue one instead of buying. Next we just need to get him a Barkbox!

Now that things are beginning to settle down I hope to be back on a regular posting schedule, but there will still be plenty of appearances of Duke in the future.

Valentine’s Day

DSCF0579Cody and I aren’t crazy about Valentine’s day. My poor boyfriend get’s hit with Christmas, my birthday, our anniversary and then Valentine’s Day. By the time Valentine’s Day comes around I feel like I should spoil him with something. But he always comes through with my favorite flowers, Gerber Daisies. When I used to work at the bank, he would bring in these crazy and amazing flower arrangements that would make all the ladies in the office swoon. Now that I work at a studio, I just get to enjoy them sitting on my desk and look at them to brighten my day. He knows he doesn’t have to get me flowers, but they brighten up my desk so I enjoy them. We bought some Candy hearts earlier in the week to keep at the studio in a little candy bowl and I was so disappointed! The candy hearts look like MS DOS (for those of you who remember that) typed out text on them, what is the candy heart world coming to these days!?DSCF0589Happy Valentine’s Day

Living in San Francisco means…

asking when’s the next BIG ONE?!

I just saw this really fun post from the Bold Italic about living in San Francisco called: Living in SF Means… (Sorry for the bad words in the article) I also just experienced some relatives in the Midwest go through a tornado. It made me think, is it normal for me to think about earthquakes ALL THE DANG TIME? I’ve made my boyfriend agree on a meeting place for both of us in the event of an earthquake, I have a few extra gallon bottles of water saved at the house, and I’ve still neglected to get an emergency kit together.

PROCRASTINATION, I’m really good at it.

Earthquakes are a big deal (and also NOT a big deal)here, mostly because all the experts say we are due for a big one, and if any of you experienced the 89′ quake then you know what I’m talkin’ bout. We get little ones pretty often and they don’t really bother people too much, does anyone remember like a year and a half ago when we had two 3 pointers in one day?!?! That was weird!

Ok anyway, not sure why I got so distracted about earthquakes have a great rest of your day
