DIY Holiday Wreath

DSCF2748 DSCF2740

I decided it was about time that I got into the Holiday spirit so, I picked up a bunch of greenery to make a wreath with. I ended up buying far more greenery than I needed. I used a 14″ wreath frame, 18 gauge wire, greenery shears, wire cutters and gloves.

I was pretty grateful for the gloves, the branches had a lot of splinters that were tearing apart my hands.DSCF2751

This was the first wreath I attempted to make and while I’m no expert, after you sort of get started you easily see how it all comes together as you build on top of each other.DSCF2758DSCF2767 DSCF2764

I am so sad, this is my wreath after the downpour we had in the city… now it’s a very droopy looking wreath.DSCF2782

oh well, with the rest of the week forecasting rain, there is no reason to try and fix it, I’ll just live with the imperfection.

Welp, Happy Holidays!

It’s Thanksgiving menu time!

gluten free shepards pie gluten free pumpkin bread pieLast year I came up with some real winners in the GF/Veg cooking department and these staples are sticking around for another year. On my menu for Thanksgiving will be:

Shepard’s Pie

Stuffing (of the Gluten Free Variety)

Pumpkin Pie with a little twist

The Shepard’s pie is a staple in our little household, it just makes you *feel* like it’s a special occasion and that you’re fulfilled with Thanksgiving ‘feels’ just as much as those who are partaking in the Turkey. I am going to surf the food waves at my local Rainbow market to see what other treats tantalize my taste buds, but for now these are on my menu to stay. I’ll share my finds if they end up being interesting.

So now here’s the ooey gooey feely part, what am I thankful for?

Well I’ve got to say this last year has been pretty amazing. I’m super thankful for my current job situation(I’ve had some real crap jobs in the past), and I got Duke this year who has changed the family dynamic totally in our little 2 person household. There’s been lots of good things this year, I’m pretty dang happy.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Top 5: Recent Books I’ve Read

I might be bringing out the granny in me, but when I am planning to go camping, one of my top priorities is downloading a good book on my kindle so that I can lay in my sleeping bag and read for hours after the sun has gone down. Cody is also an avid reader, actually he can finish a book in a couple days with no problems and he does it quite often. While Cody is an exclusive SciFi reader, I am a little more well rounded I would say.

I am always looking for book suggestions so I thought this would be a good way to post what I’ve read recently and hopefully get a few suggestions from you!

So here’s what I’ve been reading lately:

The Likeness Tana French

Tana French’s Dublin Murder Squad Series has been really good so far. “The Likeness” is the second book in the series and both this book and “In The Woods” were page turners that I couldn’t put down. They about the Murder Squad in Dublin Ireland and while the books seem to center around the squad, both books had different main characters from within the group of detectives. My only complaint about the second book was that it really took a while to get started, I believe because the author wanted to set the scene and let the reader get to know the characters since there were some different ones in this book. Even with this consideration I want to read the next book in the series.Saga Comic Book Series

Oh, Saga, Where do I even begin? I enjoy comic books, this might be a little known fact, but I have read quite a few comic books. I don’t consider myself very knowledgeable on the different genre’s or artists I do like to go poke around my local comic book shop and make selections based on the covers and what the inside art looks like. Saga is one of the books I stumbled upon. I had never heard of Saga and saw the cover pictured above and looked at the beautifully drawn artwork on the inside. I picked up the first book and read it while I was camping and immediately craved more of this story and their world. I will say that it does have “mature” content in it, so for those of you not familiar with comic books, don’t expect this to be a kid friendly thing to read. The series is a very Romeo and Juliet type premise, with a lot of twists. The two main characters are from rival species/planets and fall in love. They have a baby and are on the run from their families and governments. If you get a chance, you should look up Fiona Staples and see the amazing artwork that she does for Saga as well as other comic books.Pathfinder Orsen Scott Card

For those of you who’ve read or seen the movie Ender’s Game, this book is by the same author. It is a series, the first book is “Pathfinder” the second is “Ruins” and the third called, “Visitors” just was released on November 4th. The world completely sucks you in and you’re lost in this world that Card has created. I am really excited to read “Visitors.”

Stephen King Time Travel Book

I’ve never been a very big fan of Stephen King, I’ve attempted quite a few of his books and picking up this one was a huge leap of faith on my part. I am so glad I gave this book a try. This book isn’t a thriller or horror like many of King’s books. It is about time travel and the murder of JFK… Just read it! This book still has me mesmerized and I keep hoping and hoping that King will write another book similar to this one. Mr. King if you are reading this… write it!The Ocean at the End of the Lane Neil Gaiman

I am a Neil Gaiman fan and have read a number of his books, The Ocean at the end of the Lane is a fairly new release and was the type of story that you think about even when you’re not reading it. It was so good!

Well these are my top reads lately… Hopefully if you’ve been looking for something to read this will point you in a good direction. If you’ve got a favorite, please share, I am always looking for books to add to my list!

Halloween Pumpkin Carving Party

Halloween, it’s the best holiday right? Well I kind of think so. We went and got pumpkins recently and had a fun little pumpkin carving party with everyone at work.DSCF2535We went to the pumpkin patch by our house, we brought Duke with us, but we were told that dogs weren’t allowed so Cody and Duke sadly watched as I picked out our pumpkins. Awww…

DSCF2498 DSCF2500 DSCF2501  I made gift bags to take to the pumpkin carving party and filled them with candy, a few toys, and spider rings.DSCF2506 Pumpkin carving is no easy task, it took me awhile to get my design down. DSCF2512 Cody brewed up some ideas online and had a really cool design for his pumpkin. DSCF2517 Duke even joined in on the festivities! DSCF2530 Here are our final pumpkins! Pumpkin carving isn’t my strong point(as you can see!) but it was pretty fun anyway. DSCF2537

I did a camera pumpkin carving last year, which was far more planned and creative then this years! We just got our costumes and I am really excited that Cody, Duke and I are going to be 3 of the 4 Ninja Turtles! Don’t worry I’ll post pictures 😀

Weekend Snaps No. 3

San Francisco is my muse. I can walk out my door and head in any direction and find something new that I’ve never seen before. I did a little exploring of Golden Gate Park and ran across a few new spots in the park. behind every tree there is a new trail, bench or garden! On Sunday I was feeling pretty under the weather… it seems like I always catch something when the weather is the nicest outside, everyone at work has been passing a cold around and I guess it hit me over the weekend, convenient how that works. isn’t it?! Feeling crummy isn’t so bad when you’ve got a pup to cuddle up next to you though.dog walking in golden gate park

I don’t know if this is a normal occurrence, but there were Llamas in the park!?llamas in golden gate park san francisco

Got some frozen yogurt too. The weather was sunny and hot this weekend! This place is fairly new to my neighborhood and serves frozen yogurt with you – pick – em’ toppings. Cody got Vanilla Bean and I got the non-dairy flavor option; Peanut Butter. I put some sprinkles on top of mine but Cody went with none, which is a crime if you ask me!frozen yogurt san francisco

And here is a pretty picture of the Sunrise and Duke. 🙂

nevada_sunriseWell that was my weekend, how was yours?
